We are pleased to announce the release of CygNet version 9.0.
This release includes the first release Canvas, the new HMI development tool. Canvas has a companion application, Canvas View, that is read-only. The CygNet blog contains webinars to introduce you to the features of Canvas. Of course, we will continue to add features and tools to Canvas in subsequent releases. And don’t forget that you can make your own custom controls for Canvas. One question that we’ve been asked a lot is will Canvas be able to show a CygNet Studio screen and the answer is yes, there is a control for that! We do realize that CygNet Studio and Vision will continued to be used for quite some time we’ve made enhancements and provided fixes for it as well.
Also included in this release is CygNet Dispatch, a new job scheduling product that extends the functionality of a CygNet Measurement installation. CygNet Dispatch provides scheduling, tracking, and reporting features to integrate data from jobs in the field, such as calibration and inspection results, with your measurement data.
The Address Resolution Service (ARS) in v9.0 is multi-domain aware. An ARS running several domains will reduce the overhead of managing multiple RSM and ARS services in a complex redundant environment. Service shutdown and startup delay time will be reduced, as the last ARS in a failover event will continue to run after a local or data center failover has occurred. Other systemic benefits include improved management by a single ARS in a failover set of the CAL, host activation, and other license-master-controlled entities (CvsMetadata, license master, CygNet time zones).
The Value History Service (VHS) now supports the replication of extended data types and binary large objects (BLOBs) from one VHS to another. This enhancement allows the replication of dynagraph cards and the DynaCard Library used by the ForeSite Product Optimization Platform. Additionally, the VHS Import/Export utility now more fully supports the import of extended entry values to a replicated VHS, including binary large objects (BLOBs).
Historical data rollup processing has been improved to better support time-zone transitions when iterating through data. All CygNet components that perform rollups now report more accurate data. Calculated averages may change slightly for daily and hourly rollups; minute rollups are not affected.
A new DNP3 EIE is now available. This EIE enables a CygNet host to communicate with field devices that support the industry standard DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol) protocol. Like most CygNet EIEs, the DNP3 EIE is a template-driven EIE.
There are many other enhancements and fixes in CygNet v9.0. I encourage you upgrade your systems!
