FMS Service and the SQL Server Database Relationship

January 2, 2018 / 0 comments / in Measurement  / by Bruce Detter

This blog is intended for the FMS service operator to gain understanding of the relationship between the FMS service and the SQL Server FMS database.

When working with the FMS service and the SQL Server database connection it is important to note that each task will run in an executable thread within the executing multi-threaded FMS Service. When data is required from the database, each thread will initiate a unique session with the database to read/write the specific data. It is possible, for some long running task with minimal to no activity,  for the database to close the session as part of the database service manager optimization processing. The FMS service will detect this state and cause the session to re-open when the FMS Service requires database access.

Why token based polling: Partial success and command synergy

October 21, 2015 / 0 comments / in Measurement  / by Jacob Allred

In my ongoing theme to further educate you all on the reasons to use token based polling (otherwise known as Request New Device Data) we find ourselves on our 2nd installment of the series. In my previous post we covered the Reduced Overhead of the command. This time we’ll cover Partial success and Command synergy

Why Token Based Polling: Reduced Overhead

July 16, 2015 / 0 comments / in Measurement  / by Jacob Allred

In my last post I talked about why TOKEN-based polling is the new best way to get your EFM data into CygNet Measurement; it’s now time to start backing up that claim. Let’s start with a simple one…

How does CygNet Measurement help me to reduce the polling overhead of my devices?

Why Token-Based Polling is Better than Sliced Bread

There’s a new request in town, and it goes by the name “Request New Device Data” (and boy, does it mean business!).

In ye olde tyme Gas Measurement Repository (GMR), there was only one way to get data from the field, and that was by using date-based requests. When using a date-based request, you essentially are asking the devices: “What data do you have from 3 days ago until today?” This approach works for some cases, but isn’t very robust in other scenarios, many which are unforeseeable. Administrators typically need to build safety nets to handle any communication down times so that there is no data left uncollected

Why your analysts will love the new Measurement dashboard

While the CygNet Measurement Dashboard control serves many roles in helping your analysts know what they need to be focusing on, the latest version adds the new “Analyst overview” display to make it even easier.
